Old fuse box? No safety switches? We replace your switchboard with a modern RCD-protected board β fixed price, one day, fully compliant.
If your home still has a ceramic-fuse switchboard, or if it has circuit breakers but no safety switches (RCDs), it's time to upgrade. Modern Australian wiring rules require RCD protection on every circuit, and most old switchboards simply weren't built for it. They're also undersized for the loads modern homes run β induction cooktops, ducted AC, EV chargers, multi-zone heating.
We do a steady stream of switchboard upgrades across the Northern Gold Coast. Fixed-price, typically a one-day job, with a compliance certificate at the end.
We turn the power off, fully replace the existing board with a new modern enclosure, RCD-protect every circuit, label everything correctly, and test the lot before turning power back on.
If you're adding a large EV charger, three-phase ducted AC, or a major solar/battery system, you may need to upgrade from single-phase to three-phase supply. This involves Energex coordination, meter swap and a full board upgrade. We handle the lot β including the Energex paperwork.
Range covers typical single-phase residential switchboard replacement with RCD/MCB protection on all circuits. Three-phase upgrades, asbestos-affected boards, and large acreage homes sit above this range. Send a photo of your existing board for an accurate fixed-price quote.
Typically 4β6 hours. We schedule around your day where possible β happy to do it while you're at work, or split it over morning/afternoon if needed.
Sometimes a partial upgrade (safety switch addition only) is possible if the existing board is structurally sound and has space. But many older boards are too small or too old to safely add RCDs to β full replacement is often the safer and only-marginally-more-expensive option. We'll assess on the quote.
It's a Certificate of Electrical Safety lodged with QLD's Electrical Safety Office. It proves the work was done by a licensed electrician to current standards. You need it for insurance claims, property sales, and to avoid regulatory issues.
Yes β the upgrade is to the switchboard only, not your wiring. All your existing appliances and fixtures keep working as before. The only difference is they're now properly protected.
Yes. Many older Gold Coast boards have asbestos backing or enclosures. We handle these with proper containment and disposal protocols. There's a small additional cost for the asbestos handling but it doesn't blow the budget out.
Often yes β depends on your existing board's capacity and what else you're running. A 7kW EV charger draws around 32A continuously, which is a significant load. We do a load calculation on the EV charger quote and include any switchboard work in the fixed price.
For installs and compliance jobs, send us a floor plan and we'll come back same day.
