Every QLD home needs interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027. We supply, install and certify in a single visit. Send us a floor plan for an accurate quote.
From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home β including yours β must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, every hallway, and on every level. This is QLD law, not a guideline. If you sell, lease, or insure your home, this is what you'll be measured against.
We do smoke alarm compliance work right across the Northern Gold Coast. Send us a floor plan or a rough sketch with bedroom count, and we'll come back with a fixed-price quote. Most homes are completed in a single visit including supply, installation and certification.
From 1 January 2027, every Queensland residence must have:
For a typical 4-bedroom single-storey home, that's usually 5β6 alarms. Larger homes need more.
Every home is different. Bedroom count, ceiling type, switchboard wiring, hardwired vs wireless interconnection β all of these affect the install cost. Without a floor plan, anyone giving you a phone-quote is guessing.
Send us a floor plan (or a rough sketch with bedroom count) to info@airconm8.com.au and we'll come back with a proper fixed-price quote β not a guess.
If you're already getting quotes elsewhere and they haven't asked for a floor plan, that should tell you something.
Most homes are done in a single 3β5 hour visit:
You get a written compliance statement at the end, useful for insurance, sale and rental compliance.
Range covers most 3β5 bedroom homes with interconnected photoelectric alarms in every bedroom, hallway and on each storey. Larger homes, multi-storey acreage, and homes needing wired interconnection (vs wireless) sit above this range. Send a floor plan for an accurate fixed-price quote.
Yes β for owner-occupied homes the deadline is 1 January 2027. For rental properties, the deadline applies whenever there's a new tenancy, lease renewal, or sale. Selling or leasing before 2027? You need it done now.
Battery-only alarms aren't compliant. The law requires hardwired (240V) alarms with backup battery, and they need to be interconnected. That's licensed electrical work. Some of the 10-year sealed-battery alarms can be DIY-installed but they still need wireless interconnection done correctly.
Older hardwired alarms (especially ionisation type) almost always need replacing β they don't meet the 2027 standard for being photoelectric and interconnected. We assess on the quote and replace what doesn't comply.
One in every bedroom, one in every hallway connecting bedrooms, and one on every level. For a typical 4-bedroom single-storey home with a single hallway, that's 5 alarms. For a 5-bedroom double-storey, usually 7β8. Send a floor plan and we'll spec it exactly.
The compliance is valid as long as the alarms are in working order. Photoelectric alarms typically last 10 years (the sealed batteries die at 10 years and the alarm needs replacement). We document the install date so you know when replacements are due.
We don't do third-party rental inspections β we're focused on owner-occupier work. For rental compliance, your property manager usually has a preferred inspector. We can however supply and install compliant alarms for landlord properties.
For installs and compliance jobs, send us a floor plan and we'll come back same day.
