Ceiling fan replacement or new installation. Licensed electrician — done properly so it doesn't wobble, hum or fall down.
Ceiling fans are one of the simplest comfort upgrades you can make — properly installed, they cut your AC running cost dramatically by letting you set the thermostat 1–2 degrees warmer with the same comfort level.
We install all reputable brands and most styles — DC motor fans, AC standard fans, fans with light kits, fans with remotes, exterior alfresco-rated fans. Replacement of an existing fan is straightforward; new installs need a circuit run from the switchboard if there's no existing wiring at the location.
DC motor fans (most modern premium fans) — quieter, more efficient, more speed steps (typically 6 vs 3), reverse function for winter, remote control standard. About 50% more upfront, but 70% cheaper to run. Worth it for bedrooms and living areas you use daily.
AC fans (older standard tech) — cheaper upfront, fine for occasional-use rooms (study, guest room), simpler controls. Still good fans, just not as efficient.
We can install whatever you've bought, or recommend brands we know are reliable and parts-supportable.
Replacement (existing fan or light fitting at the location): straightforward, usually 1 hour per fan, no plaster damage. We disconnect the old, fit the new, balance, test and clean up.
New install (no existing wiring at the location): requires a circuit run from the switchboard, possibly through the ceiling cavity. Adds 2–4 hours per fan depending on access. Some plaster work might be needed, which we coordinate or recommend a plasterer for.
A ceiling fan installed badly — wobbling, humming, vibration through the ceiling — is just irritating. Installed well, you should be able to run it on full speed and barely notice it.
Critical things we get right that handymen miss: secure mounting to a ceiling joist (not just plasterboard), blade balancing (every fan needs balance check after install — they all come slightly out), correct cable termination at the canopy, and compliant switching (light kit and fan need separate switching where required).
Range covers typical fan installs on existing wiring (replacement of old fan or install in a location with existing ceiling rose). New installs requiring a new circuit, additional wiring or beam mounting sit above this range. Multi-fan jobs typically cheaper per fan due to single travel charge.
Yes, happy to install fans you've bought. We'll quote install-only. Just make sure it's CEC-approved and the box is unopened so the manufacturer warranty stays intact.
Replacement (existing wiring): 45–75 minutes per fan including testing and balancing. New install (new circuit needed): 2–4 hours per fan depending on access.
Up to 3.5m we use a step ladder. Higher than that we'll need a small platform or scaffold — adds a small amount to the quote but easily handled. Cathedral ceilings sometimes need an extension downrod.
Yes — any work involving cable termination at a ceiling rose is licensed electrical work. Plug-in pedestal fans you can DIY; ceiling fans are a sparky job by law.
Yes — running a ceiling fan with the AC lets you set the thermostat 1–2°C warmer for the same comfort. The fan uses about 5–15% of what the AC saves. Properly used, ceiling fans pay back the install cost in cooling savings within 1–2 summers.
Yes — we install IP-rated alfresco fans for covered outdoor areas. Make sure the fan is rated for outdoor use; standard indoor fans degrade quickly outside.
